WORD COUNT BY MINNIE OF GS AND IT'S DARK ON A COLD DECEMBER, Literature class was one of those things that truly confused her. Even now, she sat at her desk, squinting at the words written on the page of the textbook. It was hard for to focus on the words on the page. Why were people using perfect nesting material in this way? Well...she supposed it was fine since she wasn't a Phoenix all the time anymore, and well, in general humans didn't make nests, or so she learned. But she still liked to do it out of habit with her bed sheets.
They had been asked to read on their own, for now, and the teacher had gone to go check up on something. Naturally, not everyone was reading, but she was actually trying. Though Deneb had taught her how to write, reading was a different story. She was much choppier with it, and she found it hard to make out words on a page sometimes. If she didn't shape up by the end of her first year, she knew she was going to have a ton of issues. She was barely listening to the chatter around her as she flipped the page. "....Who...dare...defend....thist...honor?" The sentence was 'Who dare defy thou honor?'. but it was close enough, wasn't it?
She sighed to herself as she pulled a cookie from one of the inner pockets of her bag, leaning down so she felt she couldn't be seen snacking on the treat, which was kind of a weird snack for 10 in the morning. To humans anyway, she guessed. She also looked warily to her side. Danya's desk had been right next to hers since the first day, and she really didn't like it. He was always picking on her, yet she always seemed to forget to read the passage quietly to herself. Looking back to the the page, she began to read to herself quietly again "King...Sombrero...riced...his...um..." and she was stuck again. This is why she needed so much help with her homework. - - i think i love you better now

Literature was a breeze for Danya and he actually liked it, having acquired a taste for it after long hours of being stuck in a large house with little else to do. He barred his thoughts from even going down that road considering it would just darken his mood. When the teacher announced they had to step out for a moment so they should continue reading by themselves so they could ask questions when they came back Danya was more than happy to. Without a thought he sat lower in his chair and balanced it on its two hind legs as he read the words on the page with ease that came with years of practice. While German may have become the tongue he spoke in most, English had still been the first one he’d learned as it was the common tongue in this world when he’d been a pup.
The peace that surrounded him didn’t last for long as something else caught his attention and held it but for all the wrong reasons. The familiar voice struggling to read what was on the page made him blink out of his little work created by the words on the page. At first instinct drove him to open his mouth so that he could offer his help but as his eyes landed on a certain Phoenix any help that had been on the tip of his tongue died.
He watched her struggle with dark satisfaction, listening as she struggled with the words as usual and he chuckled gleefully. A slow sharp grin curling his lips before an eyebrow arch when she attempted to hide the fact she was eating a cookie. His eyes narrowed just a fraction before he chirped with mock pleasantness, “You really suck at reading. You should just drop out, airhead.” Without much warning he reached out to roughly tug at a strand of hair on the girl’s head. Nenet was not his most favorite person in the world. In fact right after his master and vampires she was coming in a close third in that list of ‘things that should probably most definitely be killed one day’. Something about her just rubbed him the wrong way and her constantly breaking tings and then her personality was just. It was enough to make his fur bristle and his lip curl inwardly as though he’d seen something particularly unpleasant.

WORD COUNT BY MINNIE OF GS AND IT'S DARK ON A COLD DECEMBER, She continued trying to read. It was hard for her to get through school sometimes, at the rate she was learning, life beyond being locked in a cage. The words on the page sometimes jumbled for her, and she bit her lip as she attempted to sound out each word to herself. She would have been screwed in school if Deneb hadn't offered his help when he was felt it was needed. She wouldn't know how to write without him, however sloppy her writing still was. Hands weren't something that she was used to having in place of her wings, but she was working on it. But she felt like giving up on school, would be a bad thing. This was her chance to learn more about life outside the cage she had been caught in. Sure, she had been free for years, but hadn't opted into a human form until recently.
Though it was a voice that made her lift her head from her book. Turning slightly, she noticed Danya sitting there. She hadn't been sure if he had been at his desk this whole time, but the fact that he was here now made her heated skin prickle. The hound had rubbed her the wrong way since they had ended up in the same class. He could tear down all her hard work in a moments time with one simply well placed comment. Nenet bit her lip as she looked at him evenly. "I...I'm doing just fine, dog-breath!" She mentioned. He was close enough to where he could hear her when she spoke without her having to shout, but a tiny sound of irritation left her throat as she looked back down towards her book.
"I may needa' work harder, but it doesn't mean I should drop out. It just means I need to--Ouch!" She yelped when she felt him tug her hair, and flailed her arms to try and smack his away. Whenever his hand released her hair, she took it gently in her own, tears rimming her eyes. Not because she was about to cry, but since it hurt it made her eyes prick slightly. She shook it off, giving him an annoyed look. "What's your problem Danya? I didn't do anything to you." She mentioned, holding her book in front of her face. "Rude..." she mumbled to herself. - - i think i love you better now

Danya was sure he wasn’t always like this towards the phoenix girl. He was sure that at some point in the beginning he’d started off at least a little nicer but…he wasn’t quite sure when that slight kindness vanished and was replaced by this need to tear her to pieces. It wasn’t often that he felt this dark desire to tear, break and devour something so completely but well…Nenet had somehow managed to raise that primal demonic need within him. She was just so easy to torment and if he leaned in just close enough where he could scent out her disgusting scent of baby powder. Danya could make out the purity and innocence within her and it made him want to ruin it.
It probably didn’t help that at instance like these she would get herself riled up and try to insult him back. Her attempts were pitiful but they were enough to make him bristle and want to pounce even though they were in the middle of class. He tensed in his seat to make sure he didn’t do just that but he snorted rudely at her ending words. ‘Dog breath’, how cute.
A hiss of satisfaction escaped him along with a dark chuckle when in the middle of her rant she cried out in pain from his rather harsh tug. Snatching his hand back from her before she could actually swat at it and hit it like she’d attempted to do. “Oh poor chicky-chick has to work hard because she’s stupid. How sad.” His eyes flashed and he aimed to pinch the arm in reach when she went to continue reading as he growled delightedly, “Do you really wanna know what my problem is? Truly?”
He leaned forward a bit as though to share a secret with her, his blood red eyes glittering brightly. His lips curled up into a cruel grin as he watched her, no one else really paying much mind to them as they were used to their antics. So long as they kept it to little things like this there wasn’t much attention on them. It was when she really annoyed him and he lunged for her that usually brought the attention on them but he wasn’t there yet. He was still simply enjoying torturing her at the moment because really she made it so easy. “My problem…is you, chicken-head.” He went to tug at her lock of hair again as he pulled away, a low chuckle escaping him as his eyes danced with sadistic mirth.

WORD COUNT BY MINNIE OF GS AND IT'S DARK ON A COLD DECEMBER, Nenet didn't get it. All this time she was forced to spend around Danya, and she was stumped. Why did he dislike her so much? What had she done to him, where he found her so...vunerable? She liked to pretend that Danya didn't get under her skin, but he really did. She just couldn't understand why it was needed. She looked to him again, and found his eyes were still cold. He still disliked her as much as he ever did. Maybe there was a time when he was kind to her, at least for a moment, but if there was she couldn't remember. Nenet was used to being bullied. It was probably her simple nature, or the fact that she couldn't seem to do anything right. She didn't understand much about humans but there were those in this school and in general, human and creature, she found couldn't be trusted even though she initially thought that they could be. But Danya was by far the worst of all.
"I'm not stupid! I'm not used to words on pages, or these stupid...hardcovers." Why did she need to explain herself to Danya? Why did she feel like she needed too? Maybe it was because she had that need to defend herself. There were two separate spectrums of people in her life. There was Deneb, who she rarely felt needed an explination for a lot of the things she did. He was kind to her regardless of the fact that she could get a little wild sometimes. He treated her like a living being, not a toy. But then there was Danya, who always needed a reason, always an explanation for what she did and why she was doing it. It was two extremes that she'd have to shift from constantly on days where she needed to attend English, let alone wherever else Danya decided that he'd be.
He scared her, but she stood her ground as he asked her if he really wanted to know what his problem was. It sounded both dark yet delighted at the same time. Maybe it was because of Danya that she felt nervous around anyone who smelled remotely like he did. No, it probably was because of Danya. When he revealed it was her, orange-red eyes focused on him. "But why? What have I ever done to you?" She swallowed hard. Talking back to him was always hard. She'd never want to admit how much he scared her. But he did. "I...I dunno what kind of insecure thoughts you might have about yourself Danya, but I've never said anything bad to you...at least...not until you started doing it to me." The last part was quiet, and if it wasn't bad enough she had let it slip out, it was probably worse that it was probably audible enough for Danya. She felt him tug her hair again and bit her tongue."Really, just leave me alone."

Danya would readily admit he was an asshole to Nenet, in fact he reveled in being able to cause her emotional pain. He was a demon after all whether or not he acted like it most of the time. He fed off of negative emotions and reveled in being the reason for it and Nenet was the easiest of his prey to set into a funk. Anger was good but fear and pain were his favorite and she was just a fountain of both, especially during times like this when he was causing those reactions.
At her retort about being stupid he snorted rudely and gave her an amused look. His words demeaning and obviously mocking when he cooed sympathetically, “Yes of course, you’re totally right Nenet. You’re not stupid. It the books fault.” He snickered rudely, his eyes flashing maliciously as he watched her closely with a large grin. It was odd sometimes honestly because whenever Deneb was around he had to at least treat her with some sense of respect cause all though he didn’t like her, he liked Deneb well enough and tolerated her in his presence. However, alone with her? Well…it was obviously another story totally.
He cocked his head to the side as she began to speak, asking him why and trying to reason his dislike away. However, he merely chuckled darkly, slamming his foot against one of the legs of her chair as he practically purred. “Oh sweetheart…you didn’t do anything to make me hate you…except exist. Your kind is really annoying, all that reincarnating and hardly ever staying dead.” Sanguine eyes slid away from her and surveyed every creature and human in the room, a content feeling humming in his body as he continued so only she’d still hear. “Everything has a natural order and generally tend to stay dead once they die. Then they either come to my kind or Angels.”
The white haired hellhound’s eyes fell on her once more and he leaned forward a bit, grinning toothily as he growled out. “But your kind is just unnatural in the way they just keep coming back. It’s disgusting .” At her words for him to leave her alone he shrugged his shoulders and folded his arms behind his head once more, “Make me and maybe I will.”

WORD COUNT BY MINNIE OF GS AND IT'S DARK ON A COLD DECEMBER, The saddest part about their fights wasn't that they happened at all. It was that no one cared. Because they had become so common place within the classroom. Everyone was used to hearing them argue, listening to Nenet attempt to sling venemous comments his way only to get absolutely toxic ones in return. Nenet wasn't even the kind of person who liked to fight. But with Danya, she felt a need to defend herself. Out of all her bullies, he had by far been the worst.
And his reason for hating her, at least in her head, was stupider than she had imagined. "That barely explains anything. Even if you hate my kind, there are tons of us around here. So why do you keep going after me? I don't get why I'm your target. There are tons more of us around here that you'd probably enjoy." She didn't want to put anyone on a chopping block. But he was making her so frazzled. "And..don't call me by..supposedly endearing names either. I don't wanna hear that coming out of you." Because even those would begin to sound like insults. She swallowed hard as he called her race disgusting.
"You're not right. Just because we're different doesn't mean we deserve any less respect." She swallowed again. "Besides...I have a friend who doesn't care what I am, he wants to be my friend anyway. So I don't need to listen to any of the garbage you've been spewing at me." She mentioned, looking away. And then he told her to make him leave her alone. "I..." She paused. Was she about to say something stupid? That was usually what followed. Closing her eyes, she picked up her book, opening them again and chucking the hard covered book in Danya's direction, though she'd likely miss due to her aim being nothing but horrible. "Just stop talking!..." - - i think i love you better now
