[ABILITIES]
• liesmith: the ability to make others believe their lies and tricks. while not a completely unavoidable thing, it becomes really hard for the target to resist the user from thinking in their perspective.
• glamour: the ability to conjure minor illusions. they can easily hide physical traits from people who don't know what to look for, or create small distractions.
• contract: the ability to make a contract with another being in return for services. both parties must agree before the contract is made and lasts as long as both sides needs are established.
[PERSONALITY]
On the surface, Emery is perhaps a textbook example of what it means to be "ladylike". Poised and polite, she may be described - perhaps rather aptly - as practically princess-like in her disposition. She speaks eloquently and formally, and carries herself with a gentle air of grace and kindness. However, this is merely a façade; a front, of sorts. Beneath this outer persona naturally lies Emery's true personality... which is almost a complete opposite to her 'outer self'.
Behind the mask, Emery is more or less all about self-gratification. She has a constant thirst for amusement and having new experiences; thus she is often looking for ways to make things interesting. Due to her love of mischief, often she turns to pulling pranks, teasing, and generally messing with people for entertainment. She is also quite fearless and has no reservations about being a little reckless, either. While she rarely cruel almost never operates with malicious intent, she does like to see her plans to fruition and has no problem being a little devious to make that happen. In other words, Emery is not above a bit of 'harmless' manipulation and arm-twisting if it gets her what she wants. In this sense she is fairly selfish, yet she is not exactly 'mean'. Emery may often lack consideration for others, but she rarely wishes serious harm on those around her.
For instance, Emery is not averse to helping others in need, especially with something she deems interesting or amusing enough. She is also generally kind to others, her 'fun' schemes notwithstanding, and (for the most part) cares for people's well-being. Additionally, she has a genuine interest in getting to know people, and thus is also quite friendly and outgoing even beneath her gracious exterior. People, after all, are interesting and bring new perspectives and ideas to the table that she enjoys learning about. This open-minded and accepting attitude towards people is another more positive trait of Emery's, along with her drive to learn and inquisitive nature. (Although, this inquisitiveness can sometimes manifest itself as curiosity or plain nosiness as well.)
Nevertheless, for those who Emery befriends, she is also a loyal companion. However, while she generally likes most people, Emery is more selective when choosing her true friends: these are people she become close to and thoroughly trusts - a bit of a feat. She is quite observant and tends to pick up many quirks and details about people, all of which she factors into very thorough evaluations of those around her.
On that note, once she forms an opinion on someone - especially a negative one - Emery rarely changes it. In general she is quite decisive and dedicated to her choices and stances, and as mentioned she is also quite determined to get what she wants. However, these traits can shift to the extreme of simply being stubborn and pushy. Which is somewhat childish but the fact is that Emery can be rather immature. Rules and regulations are one thing she is not as open-minded about, and she ends to like rebelling just for the sake of it. Her confidence and sense of pride are also quite strong, and she can become quite upset if either are damaged. Furthermore, she has the tendency to be resentful of those she dislikes, and can hold a serious grudge for a long time.

[APPEARANCE]
Emery stands at 5'6" and weighs 132 lbs. Naturally, her appearance and demeanour match the prim and proper façade she puts on for people. The kitsune carries herself confidently, with impeccable posture and a smooth, elegant grace imbued in every movement. She has a slim figure that accentuates her modest bust and hips, and makes a point to maintain this body. However, she is careful to remain fit and athletic without crossing the line onto being overly muscular in order to maintain a feminine appearance.
As for her face, her features are quite feminine as well. Emery's almond-shaped eyes are a deep shade of blue. Her straight, purple hair falls to her hips and is kept neat at all times. It is styled in a hime-cut: blunt, straight bangs with cheek-length strands of hair framing her face that are also cut bluntly. However, she likes to keep her hair light and subtly layered, opposed to keeping it as heavy, solid chunk of hair as is more traditional in the style. Typically, Emery keeps her hair undone but now and then she enjoys experimenting with styles from ponytails to braids to buns, and so on.
Commonly, her choice in clothes is classy and feminine to reinforce her outer persona. Emery wears a lot of skirts and dresses, usually flowing past the hips and fitted around the torso with modest necklines. Subtle frills, flowers, and bows are not unusual on her attire as well as other simple patterns such as dots and stripes. She tends to accessorize a bit as well, particularly with rings and hair accessories. However, Emery does not always dress this way. Now and then - usually on a whim - she will wear a wide variety of other styles that are more provocative and/or rather boyish.
In her kitsune form, as Emery is still relatively young she is also on the smaller side. Aside from that, the most prominent feature of her in this form are her large, ice-blue eyes. As she is just over a century, she has one long tail. Her body is lean and agile, and snow white markings adorn her body amongst her orange-gold coloured fur. The tips of her ears and her paws are a dark brown, with the fur leading up to it gradually growing darker to create a sort of gradient effect.

THE PAST

[HISTORY]
Emery's mother and father were nomadic... although, perhaps it would be more accurate to say they were on the run, fuelled by fear of hunters. However, when it was time for her to be born, they decided to settle on the fringes of a small village in Germany to raise her until she was out of her infancy.
For a time, the small family was able to live peacefully. The villagers were kind and courteous, always encouraging them to move in closer to the rest of town. However, Emery's parents politely but steadfastly remained in their small hut on the outskirts of town. They didn't plan to stay long, and they certainly didn't plan to get close to any of the humans there. They were happy to raise their child for a while, and the couple even began to enjoy staying in one place for more than a few months. There was a point at which they even entertained the idea of living there for longer than they had anticipated. But of course, this was not a realistic option. While time was no foe to their bodies and souls, it was still working against them. It was only a matter of time until a hunter came through town. And even with their skills and abilities, they weren't willing to risk their child's life for their own desires.
As Emery grew enough to travel, her parents gradually prepared themselves to leave town. Unfortunately though, they had waited just a bit too long and before they could go, the day they feared came: hunters came to town.
Worse yet, they were skilled hunters that had been tracking them previously. They knew what Emery's parents looked like, and they had learned what to look for to get past enough of their glamour, lies, and illusions.
Emery's father had saw them first, which gave him just enough time to get to his family and immediately begin to run. However, the hunters' band had grown since their last encounter. In addition to their tools and traps, they had more manpower as well. While the family was able to evade them for several weeks, they were finally ambushed in the night while resting.
While her mother and father were able to hold their own and take out several of the hunters, Emery herself - still too young to fight well - was their weakest link. One of the younger hunters caught her, holding her up by the neck with a triumphant cry, his knife poised to plunge into her heart. Frantically, her mother lunged at the hunter, easily killing him. But in doing so she made herself vulnerable and her hoshi no tama was knocked off her tail with a spear.
Hastily, Emery's father retrieved it and, in a last-ditch effort, mustered the remainder of his energy to heavily cloak them in the night's darkness. They managed to escape - but only barely. From there, the family was constantly running and hiding, her parents using all of their energy to keep each other safe. Her mother in particular was weakened due to the damage to her hoshi no tama, yet somehow - albeit with many close calls - they were able to use their wits and powers long enough to lose the hunters.
Once they were in the clear and rested up enough to continue travelling, the family headed to the mountains with extreme caution. Eventually they were able to settle in total seclusion in a particularly treacherous spot with a prime vantage point of the area. This was where Emery spent the bulk of her young life, living day-to-day with her parents. While her father was largely unaffected by their narrow escape, her mother became chronically and progressively weakened. However, as years passed they were able to find peace and comfort in their secluded mountain home nevertheless.
After becoming adequately settled in the light of their escape, Emery's father made it a point to raise her particularly strictly, stressing the importance of her behaviour in front of others. By his philosophy, conducting oneself properly and politely was the basis of survival. By being kind, pleasant, and gracious, he believed she would be less likely to attract attention and danger. Through these teachings, Emery eventually developed what is now the façade she puts on.
As Emery grew older, she grew bored. Deathly bored. Running through the mountains and tip-toeing around chasms could only be fun for so many decades. She had a thirst to live, learn, and see the world; and it didn't help that she was starting to resent the overly cautious rules her father imposed for their survival and safety. After much debating and fighting with her parents, they conceded and allowed her to leave on the condition that she promised to remember and utilize her father's teachings.
With that, Emery launched herself into the world. She was cautious at first, but as the years passed and times changed, she found herself able to relax to a degree. Once she learned and understood more about how the world worked, she found herself able to navigate it without adhering to her father's rules 100%. With the shackles of her father's teachings looser, Emery truly began to develop as her own person, finding her own philosophy yet still maintaining her promise at the same time.
The years went by and Emery continued her life, occasionally returning to her parents to check in. Presently, she has found herself in New York City, about to attend an academy for supernatural creatures that - interestingly - has just opened its doors to humans as well.
