She knew this moment would come. Elsie had been dreading it since before they stepped off the boat but here it was. She officially. Needed help. In learning American slang and culture. What the hell was "What's up?"? Elsie had blinked at the older gentleman before looking above her head ".... a sky that threatens rain?" Yeah, apparently that was wrong.
"You cool, hun?" Elsie had blinked at the woman slowly, "No, I'm quite comfortable. Thank you." It was Summer. Why would she be cold? And the list was growing of terms and phrases she didn't understand. Hang out. Busted. Geeking out. To be hooked on something. To be ripped off. "That's so sick!" A skateboarder had yelled to his cohort as they had zoomed passed. The comment had seemed to be spoken in excitement or at least a positive sense. Elsie halted her steps and watched them roll away at a quickened speed. Had they been talking about her looking sickly? Were they sick? Who was sick?
Elsie's nose would wrinkle a tad. "Scheiße." She'd mutter under her breath before continuing in her stroll. There was no way around it. If she was staying as long as she thought she'd have to in this country, she would have to learn the little intricacies.

BLOW A KISS, FIRE A GUNAll we need is someone to lean on Looks like his new roomie was a bit amused by the fact he startled the poor bird half to death. All right, no big really and Iriel could see the fun in that. Bringing his legs up, he sat in Indian style with theGoing out for a flight had sounded like a grand time! It had been weeks since Iriel indulged himself in a little air time as a bird. Normally, he would have Nenet flying with him or another phoenix he had meet but today, he was alone. Taking in the warm breeze, letting his feathers catch the waves as it were. Overall, it happened to be a pleasent flight.
Pleasent enough until he hit a stray wind current that set him off course and to promptly crash into the trees of Centeral Park. His large bird body bounced around against the trees like a pinball in a machine until he finally came to a stop. In a complete daze he shook his large head and took in his surroundings.
Oh, great, he was hanging up side down with one wing cocked at an uncomfortable angle and --- wait, what was this? What was this?! He suddenly felt like a rather patheic excuse for a phoenix. Somehow, during his fall and crashing into the lower level of a tree he managed to get a plastic ring around his neck. Not just any plastic ring, but a 6 pack soda can ring. Who---why? Why would someone even leave this here and how did it end up in a tree and around his neck?
This was just shameful! Now he looked and felt like one of those poor birds on TV that tried to eat something they shouldn't. Squirming about, the large black and purple bird managed to free himself from the tree and land on his back. Hitting a root on his lower back.
He let out a very unhappy cry, flopped around and then tired to figure out a way to get this thing off. He couldn't change with it on...what if it somehow strangled him or choked him? "This is so not cool." he sighed mentally.

I'm pretty sure it was the sound of crashing above her that first got Elsie's concern. I mean, sure, her more sensitive senses had caught onto the beating of wings before the painful pinball affect could be heard as the being quickly returned back to earth. But if she paid close attention to every single small detail like that she'd be easily overwhelmed. The child vampire turned her head up to the sounds coming from the tree a rock's throw away. Her eyes even bounced back and forth as each tree limb was "oomphed" onto until finally her crimson eyes would watch the final landing upon a tree root.
..... ow?
Elsie's feet paused a moment in blank thought before beginning her way to the fallen bird's landing. That was one large bird to be living in such a populated area. And taking into consideration it was still far too early to be looking for her next nom without getting caught she didn't mind getting distracted. Even if it proved to be boring and uneventful.
With every step upon the green grass her predatory eyes hidden behind a childlike mask studied the being. The bird's size and overall structure was becoming curioser and curioser. It wasn't until the creature's red eyes made contact with hers that it solidified her conclusion. That wasn't just any animal.
Elsie lowered to her knees beside the bird if it allowed her to. "You poor thing ..." She would voice in well performed concern, the plastic 6-pack rings getting the most of her attention.

BLOW A KISS, FIRE A GUNAll we need is someone to lean on Oh, oh this was far from pleasent! He knew he wasn't a smart fellow nor was he anything great but seriously? Seriously! How in the seven hells did he get a ring around his neck during his crash landing? It was almost pathetic and he was happy that no one caught site of his---oh.
Iriel lifted his head and tilted it a few times to the side while blinking. Oh, he had been caught in the act by a small child. Well, at least it wasn't a school mate or Neil. He wasn't sure what kind of reaction he would get out of any of them---well--Neil would help him at least. Still, this brought him back to the real trouble at hand, the thing around his neck. The idea of turning back into a "human" was there in his mind but it wouldn't work well. The damn plastic might slice into his neck like in a horror film.
Not wanting to take that chance he hopped over to the child and cried at her like a wounded eagle. Maybe, the child would be kind enough to help a poor bird that had fallen from the skies? That would be nice, wouldn't? Tilting his head rapidedly like most birds he wondered if it would be okay to talk to her or if this was a human child.
If she was human then he wasn't supposed to speak to her but if it wasn't...then he could. Though he couldn't tell what she as to be quite honest. He didn't have a wonderful sense of smell like most supernatural creatures. Nor could he spot one of his own kind unless he was told. Iriel sighed softly in his mind and moved closer to her and shook of his feathers.
Surely, she could take the hint? He was a poor thing afterall! A victum of human population!

Elsie's bottom lip tremored slightly, an action she found to be quite convincing over the years. The child looked on in faked emotional concern as the bird did not flee from a "human's" appearance but came closer. A sight that is more rare in nature than not. She had a guess as to what she was kneeling so closely to but wouldn't be so quick to claim it so readily. There were many beings able to shift their outward appearance. That damn kitsune from the night before was one of them. "Do you want your necklace off?" She'd ask, inwardly chuckling at the statement. It truly was an incredible gift to host such a youthful appearance sometimes.
"Well I ..." The little girl's hands would outstretch, offering a glimmer of hope. A promise of help. A savior in a time of need -- Before she'd allow them to tremble and would pull them back into herself. "How do I know you won't bite me?" She'd stick out her bottom lip the appropriate amount to give a pouty frown. "You could be a mean bird like Aunty Tina's. And not a nice bird like in Narnia." Yeah, her age was a blessing really when it came to these sort of situations. She hoped the being before her would take the hint. The imaginary land that she had referenced was home to talking animals. And if she was going to get what she wanted from this transaction she would prefer if the bird spoke.

BLOW A KISS, FIRE A GUNAll we need is someone to lean on Did he want this off? Of course, no bird in their right mind would like such a fake necklace as this! If he was going to wear a necklace then it was going to be at least comfortabl and match his attire. Sadly, this plastic ring did very little to match his current look. Plastic was so 90's. Iriel hobbled closer to the girl and for a brief moment he looked hopeful.
At last, she was going to help the poor defenesless bird! Ah, at last he would be able to have a sigh of relief! He could change back into a person and try to find his way back to a clear area to take flight from and then go home. His hopes where so high and then quickly fell through just as he had moments ago. The small child pulled her hands back almost as if teasing him. Rude.
He waddled closer to her and even bobbed his head up and down, which mostly meant his whole body. He would love to have this off and wait he wasn't mean! Blinking a few times he tilted his head at her again before crying out for aid. He was a nice bird and he wouldn't hurt her at all. Hurting others what not up Iriel's alley at all.
How could he let her know what he wanted without speaking to her? Could he take the chance and if he did speak, who would believe a child? It seemed like the bird's lifeless experisson turned into slight debate.
Surely, there would be no harm in this...right? "I don't bite." He spoke to her telepathically, hoping he was making the right choice for a change.

.... Smile.
The smile could easily be translated as one of wonder. Which honestly wasn't surprising upon the face of a child whom had just heard the voice of an animal speak her human language. Elsie allowed a shaky inhale as she gasped verbally. "I--!" The little girl would smile brightly as she motioned the bird to come within her arm's length. "I believe you." She'd whisper, cupping her mouth with her other hand adorably. "I was hoping you were nice. Because you're just so pretty! I promise I won't tell anyone."
If the bird were to come forward one of Elsie's fingers would loop around one of the lower plastic rings and would smile into the bird's eyes, "Though before I do .... I want you to promise me one favor." The child would keep the eye contact as she would tug once lightly upon the "necklace". "Before dad left he said when someone does you a favor you owe them one back. And I'd love it if I could see you again. It would be ... nice to have a friend for a day or something ..."
Best case scenario this being before her was a Kitsune ...

BLOW A KISS, FIRE A GUNAll we need is someone to lean on Ah, what a cute smile. This child looked as innocent as a new born baby and that made Iriel feel at ease around her for the time being. Finally, she seemed to believe his words and the bird felt so proud! Sharp claws lightly digged into the dirt with joy. "Thank you, Sweetie." he said to the child with lowering his head towards her. He moved closer and held his little breath for a moment.
He had such high hopes that the "necklace" would finally be removed! Yet, she merely teased him by touching the piece of trash. This brought a perplexed look to the bird's eyes. Head tilted he listened to her words and considered them. "I would more then happy to honor that and return the favor. I could stop and visit you whenever you might like as well." He spoke with no hesitation when in reality he really should of reconsidered his words. Oh, if only he had the gift to peer into the future.
Making eye contact with the small child he hopped closer to her. Dropping his head down again he hoped the child would finally remove the plastic rings from his neck. It was just too bad she wasn't getting a Kitsune, but a Phoenix. A rather dim-witted and utterly lost one at that.

There was that smile again. Those were the words she had been trying to fish out. God, how she hoped this was a Kitsune. She wasn't the most educated of all the races this world offered but one fact she knew and adored was a Kitsune's slavery to promises. Such a being was bound by said promise until it was followed through. The little girl couldn't help but cherish the concept. The mental image of such an entity being gripped by a collar that belonged to her, sigh. It was glorious.
So inwardly crossing her fingers she smiled at the bird as he hopped closer. No hesitation in his actions or words. It was precious really. How she loved this form and its benefits. "Alright," Elsie would say, pushing up the long sleeves of the button down frilly top underneath the jumper dress she wore, "Stay still, kay? I don't want to hurt you." The child lied with a well practiced air.
With the bird's head lowered she didn't feel wary of pulling out the long hair pin that had kept one side of her hair in a sister twisted piggy tailed bun. Visually-wise the pin seemed innocent. It was gold with precious gemmed floral designs at the thicker end. However, once in the little girl's hand, with a single fluid well practiced movement, she slid off the pointed end that revealed itself to be a sheath for the fine blade underneath. Wither the bird would have seen or not from its current position she would complete the same actions.
I don't want to hurt you she had said. Moving the blade underneath the plastic ring around his neck Elsie inwardly sighed (if she were successful and uninterrupted in doing so). The feathers brushing against the metal caused a mental movie reel to play the scene of Elsie changing her mind and ramming the blade into the bird's neck. But no. She had a possible collared Kitsune. A kitty for god's sakes. No way she would pass that up just for the visual killing of an animal.
With precision and a surgeon's steady hand she would instead have the blade cut through the plastic ring. Like a butter knife through warmed butter. She took good care of her things after all. Though her hands may have spoken a different story to an observant individual, her mannerisms and tone were still childish. "There! How does that feel? Better?"

BLOW A KISS, FIRE A GUNAll we need is someone to lean on That smile was ever charming but she was soon going to be quite unhappy with her choice. As much as she was wanting a wonderful and fluffy kitsune she was going to get a bird. A rather large, fluffy, and firey bird. She wouldn't get to throw a leash over this prize nor even stick a collar on it for the same reasons. Though, hell, Iriel could use a collar for as often as he gets lost!
Iriel got even closer to the young girl and patently awaited his coming freedom. He stood perfectly still before her with his head lowered. Showing, that he had compelte and utterly blind trust in her at that moment. But it seemed his trust was well put and his ability to stand perfect still so...eerily well.
He got the impression and the thought of her not wanting to harm him in anyway. However, something felt a bit off and he hadn't a clue what it could be. But his perspective of his savior changed the moment that blade grazed his feathers. It pressed down past the quills and ran gently across his skin. It almost felt as if she was having a secondary thought with her actions.
However, he couldn't guess what that might be but the scene that was playing through his head. It was moving at an accelerated pace and left his mind going down a darker path, so dark that he didn't even catch the words coming out of the girls mouth. All he could do was stare at her in silence while the plastic "necklace" dropped to his claws.

1)"Glaubst du mir jetzt?" Asked the little girl as she spun the intimidatingly large surgical scissors around an index finger, her native language rolling off her tongue eloquently. 2)"Das hat nichts mit dem Krieg zu tun." A black leather gloved hand of hers would trail over the man's left arm, across his shoulders and down his right arm as she'd circle around him, the scissors still spinning with every step. 3)"Ein Verbündeter, ein Nazi; Ich interessiere mich nicht über solche Dinge. Es gibt nichts, was ich wünsche, von Ihnen zu erfahren, noch ist es etwas, was Sie tun können, um dies zu stoppen." The child would stop before him and would run the gloved hand across the man's jawline to collect most of the blood. Lifting the dripping hand to her nose she'd inhale lengthily, as if to allow the liquid to breath similarly to a wine before licking it up in a delightful air just as a child would an ice cream cone. 4)"Verstehen Sie?"
.... The man would nod once, the only affirmative motion he could accomplish now that his tongue had been ripped out and his fingers had been cut off thus eliminating the option to write. He was strapped to one of the chairs that he himself had used during interrogations with others, even one earlier this very day. 5)"Wunderbar. Endlich." The child cooed with a smile as she walked over to the wall again, Humming an old German lullaby. War was a wonderful invention of man. It allowed her to sneak in and use their own tools against themselves. And the Gestapo were no exception. This particular officer had been the last to begin closing this particular office for the night. Which of course Elsie had then invited herself in through the ventilation system as a puff of smoke.
6)"So viele Spielwaren ... Ohhh." Elsie sang as she picked up a spoon shaped tool. 7)"Wie viele Menschen haben Sie benutzten auf?" Placing down the scissors walked back over to jerk the man's head backwards by the hair. 8)"Sie müssen mir sagen, ob ich richtig benutzen ... oder nicht~" The little girl chuckled as she began the scooping motion in the first socket as the man's hoarse voice attempted to scream. Nature's natural shot glass really. Just pop one out and it fills right on up for you.
Translations: 1) Do you believe me now? 2) This has nothing to do with the war. 3) An Ally, A Nazi; such things do not interest me. There is nothing I wish to learn from you, nor is there something you can do to stop this. 4) Understand? 5) Wonderful. Finally. 6) So many tools ... Ohhh. 7) How many people have you used this one on? 8) You'll have to tell me if I'm using it correctly ... or not~

BLOW A KISS, FIRE A GUNAll we need is someone to lean on The young phoenix was no longer at home any longer. His bird like body remained still as a statue. Not a single feather moved out of place nor did an eye even blink. It really was like he had become nothing more then a stuffed animal. However, he was still very much alive it was just his mind left his body in a manner of speaking.
With that simple touch of the blade against his skin he absorbed some random memory that the blade had been a part of at some point. He stood off to the shadows of the memory, watching it unfold at rapid speeds and then it would slow down. It was like watching a broken VHS with the owner playing with the forward and back buttons.
He was not prepared to see the gore unfold in front of him. He hadn't any idea what to even make of it. The poor man attached to the chair looked like hell warmed over and he could swore he even smelled the blood. It was enough to make him feel sick to his stomach.
The girl performing these painful acts was the same child that had freed him from his mini prison of plastic. This memory left the bird confused and frightful even as he slowly came back into existence. The memory seemed like he was absorbed in forever, feeling it out, seeing, and feeling disgusted. But in reality, he was only still for a total of twenty seconds. Those lingering feelings of uneasy came to him as he raised his head to stare at the girl before him.
A whole new light was shed on this tiny figure before him. She wasn't as innocent as she proved to be. "What is 'Wie viele Menschen haben Sie benutzten auf?' The bird inquired with a slight butchering of the words. He did not know German but the words interested him. Maybe, that would shine more light on the memory he received. A part of him wanted to fly away like any sensible person after seeing what he had but the other half was curious to her reasons for her actions. As well as those words.

Where the little girl had been surprised at the lack of response of the bird being freed she was beyond the premise of surprised at his first spoken words. First and foremost, Elsie had been expecting a verbal "thank you" at least. Perhaps the fluffing of feathers or the stretching of wings to fly a few victory circles above her. But no. The little girl had stared at the bird as he ... did nothing. Literally. It was as if the bird had been put on pause or had frozen in some time capsule. The child was tempted to snap her fingers in front of his face, at least ask of his well being before she was interrupted with his inquiry.
Elsie's eyes narrowed, "... I wasn't aware I allowed my accent to show." The vampire began, allowing her American accent to fall further to introduce a strange unique combination of European accents. Irish, Italian, British, though her native tongue of German was the most prominent even to the uneducated listener. This accent transition gradual at first would continue on to become more obvious as she spoke.
"I've only just arrived in the country and have been nervous about speaking naturally." She partially lied to cover all of her metaphoric bases. Elsie considered lying to further assist with the innocent mask but decided to answer regardless. "How many people have you used this on? basically."
The falsely kind smile reconstructed she would tilt her head, "What might I ask begged you to pose that question? That seemed ratherrrrr arbitrary." She would say, allowing her vocabulary to leave the realm of childish mindset. This in itself was not a folding of her cards. She could always claim to be a genius from the prep school in the city. She was not overly tipping her hand to show that she was an aged being. It was amazing what a twist of words could create.

BLOW A KISS, FIRE A GUNAll we need is someone to lean on Confusion crossed the birds eyes as he shifted on his talons. Something really wasn't quite right here but he couldn't truly pin point the reasons. It mostly reflected in what he saw of her only moments ago. Was she truly a small and adorable child? Or, was she more then she let on on the outside? Deciding to play his cards carefully he ruffled his feathers in the joys of freedom.
"It is a lovely accent." He responded while not letting her know what he had seen or how he even knew those words. She could maybe figure it out or should he just turn tail and fly away? She wouldn't know him in a human form and he could escape her easily enough. But damn him and his unhealthy curiosity and ways of life. He never knew when to run away and when to remain before a predator. He was going to die an early grave, again, if this trait kept on being a part of him.
"I don't understand. What is there to be nervous about?" He seemed to ponder on her choices and on the sentence she translated for him. Hmm, interesting but what did that all mean when put with the image? Again, the large bird shifted his weight around. Lightly, he moved his beak into his feathers to scratch himself.
"Hmm? Pose what question? There was a question?" He turned his attention back to the girl with a tilted head. Wait, what had they been talking about? Hmm, it had been something interesting hadn't it? But oh, his feathers itched!

Was that a nervous tick? Elsie's observant gaze watched as the bird continued to scratch himself with his beak, working his way through his feathers to calm this unheeded itch. Was the bird nervous? And though she had responded with a polite smiled "Thank you" to his first statement and a "Well yes. It can be scary when you're a foreigner in a new country" to his second statement, the vampire's face frowned openly at the bird's last inquiries.
Was this being that stupid to think that she had forgotten events that had just happened? Was the bird under the impression that he could wave something shiny in front of her face and distract her? Though, ... he wasn't exactly rushing to change the subject either. He was legit attempting to act like the question never came about. Elsie was pretty sure that she had hidden her Austrian accent successfully. But even if she slipped on a syllable here or there, could he really have narrowed it down to German? And then ask her such a specific question. But again, her right brow furrowed slightly, he hadn't asked her for a translation. The bird had asked her "what it was".
Elsie was conversationally puzzled to the point where she blinked at him. Perhaps he truly was that silly. Either for lack of I.Q. or lack of basic memory abilities. Worst case scenario, he was pretending like it had never happened. And truth be told she could play game too. She didn't mind. Not at the time anyways. Fine.
The little girl would giggle, bringing a hand up to her lips. "I like you. You make me laugh." After a moment of this she would look back up with an attempted faked kindness. "I think you had asked me somethinggggg buuuuut I don't remember about what." She lied with a child-like laugh. "Hey, so how come you can talk but other birds can't?" She'd ask, secretly hoping the bird would follow her train of conversation and, most of all, hoping she had found herself a kitty.
