Salem is, to put it mildly, awfully teenaged.
It's not that he's not friendly - he tries so hard to fit in the mold people seem to want him to be in - but the poor guy doesn't seem to even talk right most of the time - Salem DOES stutter when he's confused, and his shyness often makes him a nervous breakdown on legs. A few years of social stigmatization (partly from him having a bit of a lonely childhood and moving around the states for his mother's job, and never allowing him to keep track of his friends) have made him a somewhat introverted kid, which, at times, suits him very well.
Well, that's what he says, but to be honest, this situation is hurting him. Salem would sometimes love nothing more than actually having PEOPLE he could talk with - it's just that he has trouble even saying hello without making a fool out of himself. Hormones and a rather confusing libido do not help either: Salem doesn't even know what he'd be game to go for as for now, men, women... Other things?
Yes, other things. Salem didn't get the memo that, you know, the school may be taking care of the life of monsters and hunters. Clueless as he is about all of this madness, and living an already stressful life, seeing a cheerleader suck blood from the jock's neck at a sporting event on his first few days made him utterly paranoid.
It may seem like Salem's story could end badly, but he's actually a friendly guy once he stops thinking you're here to intimidate him or maybe kill him for his soul, and has plenty of guts when the situation is dire - he IS very good when it comes to work with deadlines.
Another thing that helps the guy out - Salem is extremely talented. He has a musical ear (and plays guitar and piano), enjoys mathematics, can be very poetic, and could be called something of a virtuoso - But what really makes him shine is his talent at table games. Dice, Poker, Checkers, Dominos.. You name it, he knows it, he can beat you at it. However, all of these potential gold mines are wasted on stress... Well, all good things come to those who wait.
