Could you say goodbye to yesterday? Days like these were days that Erin could appreciate. Larse had been a bit busy today, which left it up to her to do opening until he could get there. She didn't exactly enjoy waking up so early on most days, especially days when she didn't have to go to school, but here having money was important, and she did enjoy a lot of duties that came with opening the store. and she liked arriving earlier than scheduled with Larse's permission in order to try and get newer recipes right. And lately, she had been there a lot in the early morning. Marzipan was what she was trying to perfect. Because it was in fact Larse's birthday fairly soon, she figured even if there wasn't really a reason for creatures like herself to celebrate something like a birthday (Because 500 separate parties was something she herself would have found annoying an excessive), she'd do something that was a bit more...like her. And since they had a lot of worldly themes, why not something a little more up Larse's alley for his birthday? Marzipan, German chocolate were all things that she and the other baker, Evangaline, had been learning to sculpt within the past couple of weeks in their free time. Though Erin had been buying the ingredients on her own, so she didn't need to use too much of the store's resources until she actually had to make the items for sale and display. And this lump of Marzipan really did look so much better for the last. It wasn't too liquefied, but it also didn't push the envelope with over solidifying. At least she was finally getting the hand of it. She dusted off her hands after a quick taste test, deciding it would certainly need more work before it went into final products. But she would work on that with Evangeline in their free time, most likely. For now, she'd have to get out of the kitchen, and fix the front while she waited for the others to arrive for their shift. So she took a deep breath and did just that, working on the displays, organizing and refilling things as needed. The cake display was always a favorite of most, and she personally enjoyed seeing all of the creations that herself, Larse, and Evangeline had come up with. She also occasionally looked towards the door, wary of being too absorbed with what she was doing to open the door if one of her co-workers showed up. If Larse showed up, he could just as easily let himself in. Kura Tachibana

An Old Life within a New World DAY AFTER DAY, LIKE A LIFETIME AWAY, I KEEP HOLDIN' ON It was days like today that Kura had sat around outside and looked into the sky hovering above him, his eyes searching for something new that he had never seen in his long life before. Each day came with no success and yet there had been something he had learned that wasn't compounded with his original plans. Today was one of the days he didn't have to attend a class or really sit around at school, which even though he acted like an anti-social shut in around most, he didn't mind having this one day to focus on work. Since working at the cafe, Kura himself had been a little more social around people since being a server required him to display some form of social interaction amongst his boss and co-workers even if it was only two or three sentences. Prepping himself for the day he sat his Yukata onto his bed and threw on his work clothes, for him it made no sense to wear something as nice and formal as that when he could get dirty. After a few moments of fiddling with his attire and felt pleased with it he would smile and begin on his way to work, wondering if someone had actually arrived before him to open up shop. As Kura made his way through the city towards the cafe, he couldn't help but look around at the people passing him by, the few that looked at him were given the same stare in contemplation before smiling and walking off. It was odd walking about in human clothing and looking like them after four hundred years, and yet if only they knew then would he receive the same stare? Oh the curiosity was within him and yet he wanted nothing to do with the ramifications of his actions with the school. As he stopped in front of the cafe he made sure that his clothes were without fault before pushing the door open and found it to be locked. Standing there with nothing else to do, he simply knocked on the door to notify whoever had been inside if anyone had been that he was outside.

Could you say goodbye to yesterday? Erin looked up from the displays as the knocking began at the glass windows outside. She knew that no one (hopefully), would think they were open at this time, so it was likely one of her coworkers. Dusting off her apron as she stood up, Walking to the door, she saw one of the servers, Kura. He smelled different from the others that worked here. His scent was similar to hers and Ashton's, but then again, she supposed she had seen him around campus as well. Hewas likely a Kitsune, but up until now, she hadn't bothered to ask. Shaking herself of her thoughts, she unlatched the door and allowed him in.
"You're a little early today, Kura." She commented as she closed the door behind him. Locking it once again, she moved to switch the lights on in the display case, looking over everything to make sure that it was pleasing to the eye. Briefly she thought of the Marzipan still sitting in the kitchen. Almond paste. All it was was almond paste. So why was it so hard to get the flavors correct? Shouldn't it have tasted like...almonds?
"So.." She cleared her throat. "I hope you're ready for today. It's been unusually busy lately." She said, trying to ease into a different topic. It was possibly a little...underhanded, but she couldn't really care. And if this didn't work, she'd probably just con Eva into doing it later. But she could at least try it on Kura. She vanished into the kitchen for a moment before returning with a plate of white paste.
"I'm still working on that Marzipan recipe." She mentioned, taking some of the stuff off the the side into her fingers. She could smell it. something was missing, and she wasn't sure what it was. "Since you're here, want to try it for me?" She asked, leaning on the counter top.

An Old Life within a New World DAY AFTER DAY, LIKE A LIFETIME AWAY, I KEEP HOLDIN' ON Kura stood in front of the door for a moment, his ears picking up the sounds of someone moving about inside of the shop itself. At first he thought it to be his boss, Larse, it was until the door had opened that he saw it was Erin. He could smell it on her...The smell of the Kitsune about her which he didn't pick up on it until he had started working here. He had spent most of his time away from his kind in his family shrine so being around other Kitsune made him feel...a little off in a sense. As he walked into the cafe, he stopped near the first table as he looked around heavily before sniffing the air for a moment," That smell," the mere fact that his nose had scrunched up meant that something in here had smelled bad or at least by his standards and yet he was compelled not to even ask what it was. He had spent so much time wondering what exactly was the smell that he had been picking up that he had missed what Erin had said only to turn to her with a stoic expression," I had nothing else to do...So I wanted to come in before anyone else," it was known that Kura wasn't exactly the conversationalist, especially in class where he would only speak unless spoken to. Taking a seat in one of the tables near the display case, he rested his head onto his right fist and exhaled slowly, his mind slowly preparing itself for work and the many people he would have to deal with. Maybe this job was to help him better himself when it came to talking to others, but like any plan he was planning on taking it slow. "Its the same as its always been lately is it not? I just hope it goes by rather quickly...What is that smell Erin?," his eyes shifted towards her slowly expecting a small response since she was the only one he could see here so far. When she had finally explained what it was exactly, he sat upright and looked over her into the kitchen before looking around again," Did I...Just set myself up for something that could kill me?," he didn't know if this was going to be something that he would regret or not, but in his long years of life he wasn't scared of much...but this on the other hand he was dreading. Sighing he would go against his better judgement and just nod signaling that he would try it. He wanted to say something like "if this kills me i'll haunt you forever" yet it sounded a little cliche and not appropriate for this situation. Once Erin had brought him the Marzipan, he simply stared at it for a moment and scanned it with his eyes before eating some of it. One could tell by his eyes that he immediately didn't like this and instead chose to simply stare at Erin instead of saying anything, his eyes screaming," Why did i agree to this" because it didn't taste good to him at all. Forcing down the bit that he tasted, Kura pushed the plate away and sighed," Remind me to never try something like this again...," those were the only words that he needed to say about that before laying his head down.

Could you say goodbye to yesterday? Erin nodded when he mentioned it always being the same thing. He wasn't wrong. It was often the same thing everyday, but it was how they made a living, and how they lasted out here in a world that was focused on material things. Money was money. It could have been worse. They could have been working in one of those large retail chains. At least for her, it was the right place to do what she wanted to do, with people who were actually more than tolerable. Except...Eva at times, but she was still endearing. "I personally wouldn't have it any other way."
She watched him as he took some of the Marizpan, leaning back against the display case. He didn't seem like he was doing so well. No one said Marzipan tasted good to everyone but...was it the ingredients or was it her? That was the main thing that she wasn't sure of. She felt the tingling where her ears would have flickered had she they been there to begin with. When he finished and pushed the plate away, she sighed.
"What, so are you just not a fan of almonds? Or is it something else?" Like maybe how she cooked it. She picked up the plate and trashed the soiled Marzipan, before turning back to Kura. "Sorry for jumping you, I think Eva took the day off today so I had no one else." She mentioned, walking back over to the displays. "Can you come help me organize the cases in the mean while?" She asked as she opened the one she hadn't touched yet.

An Old Life within a New World DAY AFTER DAY, LIKE A LIFETIME AWAY, I KEEP HOLDIN' ON Kura could tell slightly that Erin had enjoyed dealing with the many people that came to and fro from the the cafe, though he couldn't see exactly why she liked it he could however see why it would be fun. To her comment he only offered a small smile before running his fingers through his hair," I guess...You must be a people person then Erin," it was no surprise that Kura didn't like being around too many people and yet when he came to work it was a different story altogether. The cafe had offered another place in order for him to hone his "people" manners and conversation skills, but seeing from this conversation alone he was failing pretty hard. After he had ate the Marzipan he sat there contemplating on the taste overall before making an assessment of it, though the taste was good to an extent it felt as if it was missing something...or rather had a little too much in it. After she took the plate away he would rub his chin in thought before absentmindedly speaking," The taste wasn't bad yet it was as if you added a little more than average...Not that I would know or anything," clearing his throat he wouldn't want to give off the vibe that he had even the slightest bit of experience when it came to cooking, given he had lived alone for what was a long time, he had to learn it to survive. He would hope that what he had said wouldn't spark any further questioning in which he would simply look at her in silence until the subject was changed. "Its fine...I don't see it as jumping me, though next time as a precaution...Do tell me what recipe you are using okay?," offering her small smile he slowly stood up to help with the display cases. Looking around it for a moment he would tilt his head before smiling," Is Eva the one you usually have helping you about?," of course he didn't know her name committed to memory he remembered seeing another woman around the cafe. For a moment he would put some of their wares into the cases while doing a bit of organizing before sitting down. Kura didn't mind Erin in the sense that she wasn't boring nor a hassle, which to most they would be considered as such. Maybe it was the fact that he thought her to be a Kitsune which would have made him feel a little at ease, but he wouldn't quite ask about that...not now at least.

Could you say goodbye to yesterday? As soon as he had spoken about feeling as if she was a people person, she allowed a chuckle to escape her before simply shaking her head. She didn't like people in the slightest. But perhaps it was why she was good at what she did. She and Evageline both helped tend to customers when they were short handed, after all they weren't always baking. But Erin hardly ever considered herself one to like or even really care for people. Unless she was together with people she really cared for, her smiles were never usually genuine. She did what she needed to get through the day, and that was all there was to it. "I guess you could say I know how to handle them." She answered, continuing to organize as she spoke. "They can get the best of you if you don't." She explained,
She shifted her attention to him again when he spoke of the Marzipan. "I'll warn you next time. I know it's missing something or possibly has too much of something. I'll have to look into it later." She said, nodding as though she had fully absorbed the opinion. Kura was rather easy to talk to, but maybe it was because he had that similar smell, the one that put her at ease. It made her feel better about having to be alone in the same room. She didn't usually like things like this because she felt cornered.
"Eva is...something." Erin mused as she continued to tidy up. "She's the other baker, though sometimes I fear for my life when we work in the same kitchen." She shook her head again. Worry for her life she did. She never knew what it was Eva planned on bringing into the kitchen, but she was pretty sure that Royce already had half of the items on the planet blacklisted as it was.
"So Kura, I take it you don't serve people in your spare time. I bake, but what is it that servers do when they aren't at work? I'm just curious." she mentioned, turning her attention to him.

An Old Life within a New World DAY AFTER DAY, LIKE A LIFETIME AWAY, I KEEP HOLDIN' ON As he sat there and paid attention to each word that she had said, which at one point he had almost cracked a smile as she mentioned knowing how to handle them. If one person could say something about Kura it was that he sort of lacked the ability to properly display emotions when it came to others, and yet here he was almost cracking a smile to someone he worked with. Shaking his head he would lean onto his fist ever so slightly before responding," You sound like some sort of guidance counselor instead of a chef Erin, is that what you do in your spare time? I don't fully understand people as it goes, but you seem to have them pegged pretty good," he felt a little at ease around Erin to be honest, his mind going from a raging storm of quiet to a calm quell which was good in a situation that he was alone with someone. The marzipan wasn't bad in a sense, more like an item was put in too much or maybe she had missed something which happened when it came to cooking though he didn't particularly like taste testing food like that. " I would probably check the book you were using and see if there is a more updated version. Maybe you will find something to spice it up inside of it," finishing up with the display cases he moved to check how the products were sitting before nodding at a job well done. Sitting down he had remembered the other cook, now knowing her name he figured he could make some attempt to talk to here and yet the more Erin went into detail about her cooking habits the more he had went against that idea. Sitting up he would tilt his head a bit trying to figure out what exactly she was saying about the girl, he took it as her being a dangerous cook but surely that wasn't the case. " So is she some kid of dangerous cook or is it something i am missing here?," the curiosity was brimming as he leaned forward in an attempt to garner an answer from her no matter how small. What did he do when he wasn't at work? Well he didn't do much outside of school and work except read and occasionally go on strolls. Though as he looked at it from his own perspective he seemed to have quite the boring life which was fine in a sense for him. Sighing he would stand up and stretch lightly before looking at Erin," I mostly participate in my school club and read...I'm not much for social interaction so I tend to just stay to myself...err except for when i need to socialize," quite the awkward creature he was though he was set in own old customs which was one of the reasons he was here.
