Confused. Perhaps that was the closest word to describe how baffled Avery was staring at the tubes of... goop and other materials Calisto had brought over. Apparently the phoenix wanted to partake in the customs of the human world by dying his hair two extremely strange and random colors. Blue and purple. Well, Avery had no doubt that the colors would look nice on the other, but was in completely necessary that he dye his hair? They felt that Calisto looked just fine with his normal hair color. Calisto spent his whole life with black hair and Avery felt that it suited him just fine. So was it really necessary that he change it and to two rather extreme colors at that? But it was not Avery's job to judge. If Calisto was happy, they would make sure to be happy too.
They made sure to look up the proper procedures on how to dye hair ahead of time. Thankfully it looked simple for the most part. Definitely time consuming, but simple. It shouldn't take more than a few hours at the most. Avery made sure to set a few newspapers and a stool on the ground where they'd be dyeing Calisto's hair. They also dressed in the most informal clothing they had, a regular long-sleeved gray shirt and a pair of jeans. They even wore regular tennis shoes too. In all honesty, they felt a bit awkward in such a different style, but it was better that than stain one of their expensive dress shirts bright purple and blue.
"Calisto, are you about ready?"
After sliding on the pair of gloves that was set out for them, they squeezed a bit of the hair dye into a small container. They did their best to focus on trying to remember the procedure, but they couldn't deny the sound of their heart pounding a bit faster in their chest. It was nerve racking being around the phoenix. Avery never knew exactly what to do around him that'd be for the best in the long run. The air was always thick with tension and unspoken words. They hated it from the very core of their being, but what could they do? They couldn't leave if they wanted to. They were forever bound to the phoenix.
Letting out a soft sigh, the angel stretched his arms and wings out. They had to relax. If they pretended everything was alright, hopefully today wouldn't end up as awkward as the past few meetings between them both had. Besides, the more nervous the angel was, the more clumsy they became too. And seeing that hair dye was more of a permanent thing than not, it would end horribly if they ended up messing something up.

It was always such a dull, boring black color. Now that he wasn't living in that soggy, human orphanage he didn't see himself as having to be like the older person he was. Somehow, there were these memories coming back. Calisto couldn't just act like himself anymore, not when he found out he had been over six other people in the past. He looked into his reflection and it felt weird, like he was supposed to have some other different face. Maybe that was why he wanted to go and change his look all of a sudden.
He was washing his hands in Avery's bathroom. The soap had been changed to grape, his favorite scent. Since Calisto spent so much time at his place, it almost started to feel comfortable. It was somewhere where he could have his hair dyed, by one of his closest...friends, Avery. He made sure to research hair dying as well. It would probably fade after a while, but he could always dye it black again if he didn't like it. There weren't a lot of people around the school with two crazy hair colors after all. Maybe it was because no one looked good with it. But something in him told him that it would just be right. It was actually similar to the photographs in his journals...which were actually written by him, somewhat.
Drying his hands very thoroughly he walked out of the bathroom, the corners of his lips turning down as he frowned. "Yeah yeah, I'm ready," he groaned, rubbing the back of his neck as he mentally prepared himself for what was to come. The box said that it wouldn't just take all day, maybe a few hours. That meant Calisto wouldn't have to spend all day with them! He predicted that they were feeling awkward too. But for some reason the gap between them both kept getting larger as Calisto.
Still, Calisto plopped into a chair with his tanktop and sighed, leaning his head back to glance at them. "Don't worry you're gonna be fine. I'm gonna be fine too," and he smiled.
note: IT'S SO SHORT AND SO BAD AND I FEEL HORRIBLE SORRY NEXT TIME WILL BE LONGER.

Though the angel's heart only began to beat faster when Calisto entered the room, they couldn't help but smile sheepishly at his reassurance. Was Avery's nervousness really that obvious? Or was Calisto just that in tune with their feelings? Both seemed like possible answers. Either way, the phoenix trusted them wholly. They would never forgive themselves if they end up letting him down. Taking a small gulp of air, Avery began to roll up their sleeves as they glanced back down at their supplies. A small towel, comb, paintbrush, conditioner, and gloves... They had everything they would need, right? Well, they were as ready as they could ever be. Reaching out to brush away the locks of hair at Calisto's neck, Avery hesitated an inch away.
"If I end up messing up, I honestly do apologize beforehand, Calisto."
Their kept their voice low, not wanting their nervousness to seem completely evident. After doing so, they took the comb with their left hand and started to run it through Calisto's hair. Avery always found it almost amazing how soft he managed to keep it. They almost wanted to compare it to feathers at times. After the few tangles were brushed out, they placed the comb to the side and began to separate the locks into the way Calisto wanted it to be dyed. They gathered the sections with a separate hair clip for each and pinned them up. Lastly, they wrapped the small towel around the back of Calisto's neck and shoulders. And now it was the hair dye's turn.
"So how's school coming along?" they asked curiously. "Has anything new happened recently?"
It was a rather annoyingly simple question, Avery knew, but they were honestly curious to hear the teen's answer. They didn't want to monopolize the phoenix's life with their presence, but not knowing what was going on often caused the angel a great deal of anxiety. As they spoke, they poured a bit of conditioner into the container to dilute the dye. Avery didn't know if it was completely necessary, but all the videos they watched online mentioned such to be a good idea and thus who were they to disagree? And after mixing the concoction with the brush, they could finally start. Oh joy.
((I'M SORRY THIS TOOK SO LONG. IT SHOULDN'T TAKE THIS LONG NEXT TIME OTL))
